Joseph: watching Christmas films on the telly.

Only three more weeks until the end of the project. I more or less decided soon into it that I would only do one year. It was almost a test that I set myself and I'm proud to have persisted every week. I desperately wanted to get out of the instagram-style way of picture taking ("just smell that flower there Anya"), to take photos of the kids spontaneously without them noticing as well as only using my camera on manual mode. But a year is enough and I'd prefer picture-taking to be totally spontaneous without the weekly pressure. Yet...I can't wait to go back over the 52 photos I've taken and give myself a pat on the back :)

The first finished room in our attic conversion - a bedroom for us.  So much space to fill.  I was promised I'd see the stars from the velux window, this morning I actually did.

Anya: our newly renovated bedroom is at the top of the house where it's very peaceful; she spent ages alone up there this morning undisturbed.
Raphaël: the fact he has a new library to discover is one of his favourite things about starting secondary school. One day this week I had to remove 2.5kgs of library books from his schoolbag.

"Skills make people more human, and also more happy. Knowing how to do things for yourself is vitally empowering, especially at this point in history, when we have lost so much of what we used to know. A community full of folks who know how to grow food, make bread, keep bees, mend things, build things, a community that understands the importance of mutual support, of helping each other, of pooling resources, of sharing harvests…. who doesn’t want to live in a community like that? I sure do. And that’s permaculture for you. Thinking of the whole, and acting in a way that makes things better."
